Same as you RBNW, Elton Johns Greatest Hits. At the same time Monty Pythons Matching Tie and Handkerchief. I didn't get the "3 sided" album trick till I bumped the phonograph one day and it played all new skits. That was a glorious day!

How about first single? I bought singles before I ever bought an album. I'm not sure if the first single I bought was Elton John's Daniel or it might have been Harry Nilsson, Lime in the Coconut.

first singles -- can't remember the songs, but I think I was 7 and was spending the money I made waking the neighbors dog. must have been super early 70's - probably came home with some Carpenters and Cat Stevens.
